There are many unique eateries in Albany Texas. Since we’re small, Dairy Queen is our only “chain” restaurant, but we do like to eat well, and our culinarily gifted neighbors are very gracious in accommodating us. So the food you find here you won’t find anywhere else… Enjoy!
300 South 2nd Street
Hours: Noon – 2:00pm, Wednesdays through Saturdays
The Biscuit dining room is open to the public for lunch, Wednesday through Saturday, Noon until about 2pm. Some days they finish serving earlier.
The lunch menu changes daily, but often a soup or special salad is offered, slong with a choice of two or more lunch entrees. Lunch at Biscuit is comfort food with style, made from scratch with fresh ingredients, using tried-and-true family recipes. And there’s always at least one fresh, homemade dessert each day.

Some of our favorite places to eat are not technically restaurants. For example, the Minit Mart/Citgo service station and the Prairie Star/Chevron station have grills that serve up a variety of fresh-made fare and the Prairie Star is the best caterer in town. So here’s where else to look for great grub:
Albany Minit Mart
100 Hill Street
Phone: 325-762-3212; Pizza Pro: 325-762-2766
Hours: Store – 6:00am – 9:00pm Sunday – Thursday, 6:00am – 10:00pm Friday & Saturday; Grill open until 8:00pm nightly; Pizza Pro – 11:00am – 9:00pm – Monday – Saturday, 11:00am – 8:00pm Sunday
The grill here serves up some of the best burgers, hand cut fries and onion rings in town, cooked when you order. Also available are plate lunches and traditional convenience store fare. Lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday and there’s a hamburger special each Tuesday evening. Breakfast options include eggs to order, bacon, sausage and pancakes. The Pizza Pro (inside Minit Mart) offers pizza and sub sandwiches.
Tables are available for eating in or you can order to go. This establishment caters to smokers, so if you smoke this is your place.
225 Hill St
Hours: Grill: 11:00am – 8:00pm
Prairie Star offers quite a variety of convenience store standards like chicken strips, burritos, chimichangas, stuffed jalapenos and more. But the best offerings come from the grill/deli and the salad cases. Check the blackboard for a listing of fresh made salads and delectable desserts available every day along with hot or cold sandwiches, pizza, barbeque and more. They also serve a lunch special every day, including Sunday. Seating is available upstairs or down if you want to “eat in”. The well stocked convenience store carries a wide variety of drinks, both bottled and from the fountain.
Check out the Prairie Star BBQ Brigade at Bank Park all six days of the Fandangle. Lunch will be BBQ sandwiches with chips, drink and a cookie; Dinner is brisket & sausage, beans, cole slaw, okra gumbo, corn on the cob, fixin’s, drink and dessert. It’s served chuck wagon style and it’s “slap yo’ mama good!”
Take a step back in time. Vintage Vanilla shares its building with Sanders Drugs and Earline’s Specialty Shop. They have an old fashioned 1905 soda fountain and candy by the pound in big glass jars, just like in the old days. Coffee, ice cream and soda fountain items are served all day, so it’s a great place to get into the shade and cool off.
In addition to gifts and specialty food items to purchase and take with you, they serve a delicious lunch from 11:00am to 2:00pm every day. Menu items include tasty sandwiches, crisp salad plates, delicious soups and fresh-baked casseroles. A sign board outside announces the Soup of the Day and the Special Plate. Call-in orders are welcome.
